Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (2025)

by Lindsay Brookshier

Those with mobility disabilities visiting Disneyland will wonder how they can navigate the Disneyland Resort and be pleased to find out how accessible the parks can be! Our Disneyland wheelchair guide gives an overview of accessibility of all attractions in the resort, how to rent a wheelchair/scooter on site, and our best tips for navigating the parks.

Mobility disabilities are defined as any impairment or medical condition that limits a person's ability to walk, ambulate, or maneuver around objects, or to ascend or descend steps or slopes. A person with a mobility disability may or may not use a wheelchair, scooter, crutches, walker, cane, etc. to assist in their navigation. This guide will cover mobility disabilities that require the use of a mobility device.

Disneyland works hard to be an inclusive theme park and has their own department dedicated to Disability Services which you can contact at (407) 560-2547.

Handicap Disneyland Parking

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (1)

All the parking structures at the Disneyland Resort, including Mickey & Friends and the Toy Story lot on Harbor Blvd, offer handicap parking spaces for guests with disability placards. You will need to present your valid placard to be directed to the designated disability parking locations. As you pass the toll booth, inform the cast member about your placard and they will direct you to the right location.

Transportation from Parking Areas to Disneyland Entrance

There is accessible transportation offered by Disneyland from the parking areas to the park entrance. If you are using the Toy Story lot located on Harbor Blvd, you will board a Disney bus that accessible for those with mobility disabilities. In the Disneyland parking structures, trams are available for transportation to and from the park entrance. These trams also offer accessible seating options for both wheelchairs and EVCs as well.

Accessing Ride Queues Disneyland Wheelchair Guide

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (4)

Nearly all the ride queues at California Adventure are wheelchair accessible so guests in a ECV or wheelchair will be able to bring it in the line with them unlike strollers. If your child uses their stroller as a wheelchair, make sure you stop at Guest Services at the front of either park and they will issues you a special tag to put on the stroller so cast members know they can bring it in line and in restaurants.

At Disneyland, ride queues can get a bit more complicated depending on the attraction as many of rides there were built before ADA recommendations. Not to fear though because any ride with a queue that is not wheelchair accessible will have an alternative entrances. All you need to do is ask the cast member and they will instruct you how to access the attraction. Some of these attractions will require the wheelchair/ECV user to enter through the exit along with their party. This includes nearly all the attractions in Fantasyland among a few others. See below for our full list of how to access every single attraction at Disneyland in a wheelchair or ECV.

Return Times for Wheelchairs

For ride queues that aren't wheelchair accessible, you will see the cast member working at the attraction or visit a Guest Relations kiosk to receive a return time. This return time will match the estimated current wait time for the attraction. Once you return, you will be directed to enter a separate way (usually through the exit) and then you will board the attraction. The person using the return time can also be accompanied with five people in their group.

This is NOT the same thing as DAS (Disability Assistance Service) as you can only receive return times for the attractions that do not offer wheelchair accessible queues. For attractions with ADA compliant queues, you will wait in line like usual.

Do Mobility Disabilities Qualify for DAS?

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (5)

One thing that often surprises guests is that those with mobility disabilities do not qualify for DAS based on mobility needs alone. Since the majority of attraction queues are ADA accessible (and Disney utilizes the return time system described above for those that aren't) there is no need to use DAS. So no, you won't get approved for DAS just for using a wheelchair at Disneyland.

If there are other needs that prevent a guest from waiting in long lines beyond mobility then you can apply for DAS. You can read more about using DAS and Disabilities at Disneyland in our guide.

However, you will get return times for attractions that do not have ADA accessible queues which is a very similar process to DAS which is where a lot of this confusion likely comes from. Keep reading to see which attractions (nearly all of Fantasyland!) use this system for guests using wheelchairs at Disneyland.

Disneyland Wheelchair Guide Shows and Fireworks

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (10)

Every show at Disneyland has a bit of a different policy so I always recommend asking the cast member in advance. Usually guests with disabilities are seated first (each show will have a wheelchair/ECV designated space) before letting in other guests. You will have the choice to remain in the wheelchair/ECV or park it before walking to your seat, depending on individual mobility.

For shows at larger theaters, like the Fantasyland Theater, guests with disabilities will often be seated before the rest of the audience is admitted so they can have their needs accommodated. All of the shows and theaters at Disneyland Resort provide accommodations for wheelchairs and ECVs. Just ask the nearest cast member as each process will be a bit different depending on the show. Disneyland is extremely inclusive of guests with disabilities and I have had nothing but positive experiences with cast members.

As for fireworks and nighttime spectaculars like World of Color and Fantasmic!, there are designated disability areas in place. Usually these areas won't allow enough space for your entire family to join you, just one additional person. These areas are all also first come, first serve and can (and often do!) fill up so I always recommend showing up 60-90 minutes before show time so you know you're covered. I've seen many guests disappointed if they show up and the disability viewing area is full but it's not reserved seating and there's only so much space offered.

I understand it can get stressful trying to figure out exactly where to go for these busier shows so here's a specific breakdown for each one:

Fantasmic!

There is a specific section allocated for wheelchair/ECV users that's located on the far right (next to the dining package areas) closest to Riverbelle Terrace. Talk to the cast member in this area and they will direct you. The entrance is located just to the left of the entrance to ride the Mark Twain Riverboat/Sailing Ship Columbia. Seating in this area is not guaranteed and tends to fill up quickly so arrive at least 90 minutes in advance to ensure a spot.

You can also purchase a Fantasmic! dining package and guests that need to remain in their wheelchair will be seated in the back of the viewing area. Everyone will be seated during the show so this will give you a pretty decent view and a much better one than the area near the Mark Twain Riverboat which is a bit off center.

You will still need to join the virtual queue to access the viewing area but it doesn't matter what color you receive to sit in this area. Read our full guide to Fantasmic! at Disneyland to see how to get a spot in the queue.

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (11)

World of Color

Just like Fantasmic!, World of Color also has a specific viewing area for guests that use wheelchairs/ECVs. This viewing is moved around more often than Fantasmic! so it's best to just arrive early and ask a cast member on where to go. Unfortunately, there's just no great way to view World of Color when using a wheelchair or ECV because of the way it is all set up. Many guests will end up with an obstructed view so it's best to prepare yourself for this possibility.

You will still need to join the virtual queue to access the viewing area but it doesn't matter what color you receive to sit in this area.

The best bet for a decent view is to purchase a spot for the World of Color Dessert Party which allows you to sit at a table during the performance. There are bar seated tables and regular ones so you could easily request a regular table and there would be space for a wheelchair/ECV user. You can read my review of the World of Color dessert party to see how this view looks when seated.

Parades & Fireworks

For fireworks and parades you aren't limited to a specific viewing area and can find a spot anywhere! Although having to remain seated throughout a performance like a Disneyland parade or fireworks can obstruct your view so I recommend saving a spot early. This is also why I think it's a small world can be one of the most accessible places to view both parades and fireworks. There's so much more space that you will have more options to getting a better view if using a wheelchair or ECV.

If you're looking for that coveted castle view for fireworks, you can still try to get a spot near the castle even if using a wheelchair or ECV! There's one great spot that works perfect for this, line up facing the statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse in the hub. This circle pathway around the statue gets roped off to become a path during fireworks and if you're at the front of this rope, you will be able to stay seated in your wheelchair/ECV without too much obstructing your view (aside from those waking by!). If you're feeling really dedicated, you can also wait two hours at the very front viewing area of the fireworks! Again, wheelchairs/scooters can watch from anywhere during fireworks or parades so you have just as much of a right as anyone else to line up early.

You can read more about fireworks at Disneyland in our guide and see the most current parade tips in our Disneyland parades review.

Disneyland Wheelchair Guide Tips

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (12)

There are some tried and true tips for our Disneyland wheelchair guide that can help guests with mobility disabilities navigate Disneyland successfully. Here's some tips to consider before your visit.

  • If it's feasible, spend the extra money on a ECV rental instead of using a wheelchair your entire trip. Keep in mind that it will take a considerable amount of energy to use a wheelchair at the resort whether you are the one doing the work or someone is pushing!
  • If you plan on renting a ECV from the Disneyland entrance, arrive as early as possible, ideally before park opening. These rentals will sell out!
  • When you make dining reservations make a note that your group requires accessible seating so when you arrive the cast members are prepared and can seat you quickly.
  • Unfortunately, navigating an ECV at Disneyland can get frustrating as many guests will step abruptly in front of your scooter or not even notice you! Do some practice donuts in the esplanade before you arrive! (Kidding… maybe) In all seriousness, learn how to brake and be prepared to utilize all your patience in crowds.
  • Consider stringing lights or other recognizable items on your scooter to stand out from the crowd. This will help you find it if you need to park it or avoid being overlooked in crowds.
  • The cast members at the guest service locations in the theme parks are all trained on disability access and are going to give you the best and most informed information. And they are so kind! Utilize their help if you need it.
  • Always plan on arriving early for nighttime spectaculars to ensure you get a spot in the accessible viewing areas as they fill up quickly. Many guests utilize ECVs during Disneyland trips and you may be surprised (and more at ease!) to see how common it is. This also means these viewing areas will fill up fast!

Disneyland Wheelchair Guide- Frequently Asked Questions

Disneyland Wheelchair & ECV Guide- Mobility Disabilities Overview (13)

Guests that may require a wheelchair or ECV at Disneyland will have plenty of questions, especially if you typically do not use a mobility device in your regular life… but need one for the parks to make the most out of your day. Here are some of the most frequently asked Disneyland wheelchair guide questions.

Where Do I Park My Scooter at Disneyland?

All ECVs/scooters can be parked in the same area as stroller parking. You can also use them in the accessible ride queues (unlike strollers) which is helpful for guests that need to remain seated.

For guests that need to rent a wheelchair or electronic conveyance vehicle (ECV) Disneyland offers rentals near the park entrance, just to the right of the entrance.

Can I bring my own wheelchair to Disneyland?

Yes! If you have your own wheelchair (which you likely do if you require mobility assistance in everyday life) then yes! Same goes for if you have your own scooter or you rent one off site. You will still go through security with your device and security will check the basket, etc. but this is a seamless process.

It can be stressful trying to plan a trip to a theme park like Disneyland when you or someone in your group uses a mobility device but you will be pleasantly surprised to see how accessible Disneyland is.
